Longitude 2018 really lived up to it's hype. With an out-pour of international hip-hop acts, we also had stages occupied with the finest of upcoming hip-hop acts based in Dublin. It's safe to assume everyone had an amazing longitude experience, especially if you followed the guidelines we laid down last week, but lets draw our attention to the urban scene that took over the Heineken stages, lifestyle sports and main stage all through the weekend. Artists like Jafaris, T.E.D, Tebi Rex, Soule, and Kojaque found themselves performing at bigger stages than they would in previous years. Cleavage Club, Gxrl Code and S.O.D all had slots at the Heineken Live Your Music Stage with acts like UNQ, Veryfired and Zeno performing.I got a chance to speak to Jafaris and T.E.D's Evans Junior and Timmy Rose about the experience.
Jafaris, who performed at the Heineken Live Your Music Stage last year, "found his feet" at the mainstage this year with a bigger set-up and bigger audience.
"I was not foreseeing this at all! Last year I was performing from the VIP section of the Heineken stage, that went well and all but I was not foreseeing this. This was a huge jump. It was amazing to see my music had transcended that far ahead"
Jafaris also talked about memorable moments backstage as he and all other upcoming acts would've got a chance to meet some of their favourite artists.
"There was this moment with Khalid, Princess Nokia, Soule, UNQ and some more I can't remember, we all got together and did the Electric Slide. like they[the bigger international acts] started it off and we joined in. It was vibes, everyone was happy, things were going great!"
Jafaris further talked about how all the bigger acts were just normal people like themselves and seeing the Irish acts vibe interact with international acts in the most random way being surreal.
Evans Junior had this to say to summarise the atmosphere back stage, onstage and at the festival.
"There was definitely an image there! Black people were running longitude and everyone really had a good time, People were saying that was the best longitude they've ever been to"
Evans Junior spoke about the whole experience and even about meeting the other acts backstage such as international artists Tyler the creator, Lil Pump, Giggs and Mabel
"We[Tyler and Evans] had a conversation about the scene, he said when he was making music, it wasn't heard of that people at our level doing stages in festivals. he believes there is a lot of hope for the hip-hop scene in Ireland"
Evans got to perform at the lifestyle sports stage alongside Timmy Rose of T.E.D and friends.
"Longitude was my first festival going to, fullstop, and we were playing at it. That itself is a crazy blessing"
Timmy had a lot to say about the whole experience and it revolved all around gratitude to God and everyone around him who made it possible.
"Seeing all these Irish artists, majority of them being my good friends, music aside, Percy, Evans, Sequence, the boys from TebiRex, its all so surreal."
We wish we could get a piece from every Irish artist but I feel similar responses will be given. Longitude 2018 was a blast. Final quote from Timmy of T.E.D.
"I just want to say thank you to Longitude, thank you to MCD, thank God, thank everyone for the support. It was an experience of a lifetime"
